Benjamin List was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1968. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1997 at the Johann Wolfgang-Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). From 1997 until 1998 he conducted postdoctoral research at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla (USA) and became an Assistant Professor there in January 1999. Since 2003, he has been workingat the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr. He shares the2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with David MacMillan “for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis”.

The List group focuses on the development of new concepts in catalysis. Since 1999, this research group has pioneered the development of organocatalysis as the third pillar of stereoselective catalysis, along side biocatalysis and transition metal catalvsis. He has contributed fundamental concepts to chemical synthesis including aminocatalysis, enamine catalysis, and asymmetric-counteranion-directed catalysis (ACDC). The conceptually designed imidodiphosphorimidates (IDPis) catalysts introduced by the List group in 2016 have emerged as one of the most potent classes of chiral acid catalyst.

本亚明·利斯特(Benijamin List)，1968年出生于德国法兰克福。1997年，在德国法兰克福大学获得博士学位。1997年至1998年，在美国斯克里普斯研究所开展博士后研究，并于1999年1月成为该所的助理教授。自2003年开始，他在位于鲁尔河畔米尔海姆的马克斯·普朗克煤炭研究所工作至今。他与戴维·麦克米伦(David MacMillan)共同获得2021年诺贝尔化学奖，以表彰他们对“不对称有机催化的发展”做出的贡献。

利斯特小组重点致力于催化体系和概念的革新研究。自1999年以来，该研究小组引领的有机催化，已成为和生物催化与过渡金属催化并列的第三类不对称催化。他在不对称氨基催化(aminocatalysis)、烯胺催化(enamine catalysis)和不对称抗衡阴离子导向催化(ACDC)等催化领域均做出了奠基性研究工作。利斯特小组在2016年发展的亚氨基双磷酰亚胺酯(IDPis)催化剂已成为一类最为高效的手性酸催化剂。
